  • Students in grades K-5 spend at least one period per week in the library, learning library and research skills from their school librarian, checking out books, and doing research for classroom projects.

For Grades 6-8:

  • Middle school students regularly attend the library with their classes to do research. They have online access to the library catalog from every classroom, and they can use the library before and after school and at lunch.

Art and Music Teachers - $268,370

Music

For Grades 1-5:

100% Instrumental music instruction

  • All 3rd grade students learn to play the recorder
  • Elective instruction on wind instruments, percussion, and strings begins in 4th grade
  • Weekly music classes for all 1-5 students, teaching music appreciation, music history, basic music theory, and singing
  • Chorus programs for 4th and 5th graders
  • Music instruction after school:

    Orchestra

 

For Grades 6-8:

100% of the music program

Music instruction as daily elective classes:

Art:  

For Grades 1-5:
100% of the district’s art instruction program for grades 1-5, including:

  • Weekly art classes for all 4th-5th grade students
  • Students in grades 1-3 have art class once every three weeks

Art instruction follows the California standards-based curriculum, teaching students to use various art media and techniques, exploring artistic styles, and critiquing the works of famous artists.

For Grades 6-8:
  • One period of the Video Production elective, which combines art and technology


Note: The Moraga School District also offers art and ceramics electives that are funded out of the district’s general fund.

For Grades K-5:

  • Weekly computer instruction (grades 3-5) teaching students keyboarding and basic computer skills

  • Network connectivity and internet access, allowing students to use online information sources to research curriculum-based projects
  •  

  • Students at all grade levels have access to technology to reinforce concepts they are learning in the classroom

For Grades 6-8:

  • Staffing to open the computer labs to students during lunch
  •  

  • Hardware and software purchases/upgrades to keep equipment and infrastructure up-to-date
  •  

  • Network connectivity and internet access, allowing students to use online information sources to research curriculum-based projects
  •  

  • Middle school students use computers as part of their regular coursework as well as for specific elective courses; one of the two JM computer labs is available for non-computer classes
